If you're thinking about booking a baby gender scan, one of the first questions that probably comes to mind is:
"How accurate is it?"

The short answer is — very accurate, especially when performed at the right time and by the right professionals (hint: that’s us!)

At Let’s Take A Peek, we understand how important this moment is. Whether you're planning a gender reveal or just want to know what color to start decorating the nursery, you want to feel confident in the result. So let’s break down what affects accuracy and how we ensure you get the most reliable answer possible.

What Affects the Accuracy of a Gender Scan?

There are three main factors that influence how accurate a baby gender scan will be:

1. Timing

We offer gender scans from 13 weeks onwards, which is the earliest stage when gender identification becomes possible via ultrasound. At this point, your baby’s anatomy is developed enough for us to begin looking for visible signs.

While gender can be determined from 13 weeks, many parents choose to wait until 14–16 weeks for even clearer visibility. After 16 weeks, accuracy rates rise, however we are accurate to 99% success right from 13 weeks.

2. Baby’s Position

Sometimes baby isn’t quite in the mood to cooperate! If they’re curled up, facing the wrong way, or have their legs crossed, it can be harder to get a clear view. In these cases, we’ll do our best to gently encourage movement throughout your appointment, and we will get the gender. We’re so confident that we will get the gender that we don’t offer free rescan.

3. Experience & Equipment

This is where our clinic shines. At Let’s Take A Peek, we use high-resolution ultrasound machines designed for detailed imaging. Just as important, our scans are carried out by experienced Sonographers who specialise in early gender identification. It’s this combination that allows us to deliver both accuracy and peace of mind.

What Happens If We’re Unsure?

If we can’t clearly confirm your baby’s gender during your appointment… just kidding, we’re never unsure, we will get your gender.
